“I’ve got a dream, I’ve got a dream, I just want to see the floating lanterns gleam!” Okay not quite but this is pretty close. We all have dreams, the things we wish for our entire lives, the things we want most out of anything. For me, that dream was PARIS! It has always been that way. My entire life the answer of where do you want to go, I always said Paris! I’m not sure what exactly drew me to the city when I was younger. It probably was the Eiffel Tower. It was the only landmark outside of America that I knew about and I just had to see it. Since then, my love for Paris has only grown. Whenever my friends went, they brought me back small gifts and they were my favorite. Even though I hadn’t been, it was like I had a piece of the city with me. My whole college dorm room has been decorated with Parisian decor. I took a couple French courses during high school and online. Then when I got to BYU, I started to study French intensely. I listen to French music, watch films, practice the language, read books. I love the French culture so much without even experiencing it. Seriously, you’d think I had lived in Paris if you didn’t know me.
I seriously can’t even begin to tell you how magical Paris is. Walking around the city, I completely felt like I belonged, but I probably didn’t look like that because I know I was gawking at everything. It felt like another life. Even when I think about it 5 months later, it still feels like a dream. I get this huge smile on my face just thinking about it and I am completely in love with the city. I go back through my journal from this time and it’s clear how happy I was there. I don’t have a trip planned yet, but I am counting down the days until I can go back.
We arrived in Paris and got to our hotel in the afternoon, so we didn’t have time to explore. But that night we got to go to a performance at Notre Dame. It was incredible. Afterwards, we went back to the hotel because church was earlier the next day. The next day was the absolute best day of my life. I will probably be writing a lot about Paris because ah I love it!!!
