amalfi coast

We had two free days while in Rome! The first day Jess, Kiersten, Kylee, Spencer, Dallin and I went to the Amalfi Coast! Thank you pinterest for making this place look so dreamy that we had to go! This was one thing I wanted to do before the program even started! Kylee and I were in the same fall ward and once we found out we were both on the program (and in the same group!) we made lots of plans. The only one that actually ended up happening was amalfi!

AH LOOK AT THIS PLACE! HOW DREAMY IS IT! We probably spent a total of 7 hours in the town but I can’t even begin to express how much I adore it. The best part of Amalfi was seeing the houses along the coast. The pinks and yellows are so much more vibrant in person and I love them. Getting to Amalfi was crazy but in the end it was so worth it. It was like walking through the actual place of my dreams with the world full of happy people, good food and pink:) if you’re a fan of the color go to amalfi! The day was absolutely perfect and the only thing that would have made it better would have been if we could have stayed in an airbnb there overnight. But I guess that means I have a reason to go back!!

Amalfi is a gorgeous perfect coastal city, but we definitely had an adventure getting there. We had been talking about this day trip since we got to Rome but we didn’t actually make it official until probably like 15 hours before. We had class in some churches with james and when we got back to St John’s, Kiersten and Jess found some train tickets and bus options. We could have left at like 2am, gotten to the coast around 7 (i think it was back in march that we did this) and left at like 10pm. Or we could have left Rome about 5:30, gotten to Amalfi around 10am and left at 6 that evening. Although the first option would have been a crazy adventure we decided on the latter because even if something went wrong, we knew there were trains coming after so we could still make it there and back.

I woke up at 4AM that day! We had to be at the bus stop at 4:30 otherwise we would have missed our train. This was one of the most stressful parts of the day because the Rome buses are not reliable so we were a little afraid that it wouldn’t show up and we couldnt go. Thankfully the bus did came and we made it to the trains! We took one train to Naples then transferred to a train to Salerno, from Salerno we rode a coach to Amalfi. We almost didn’t make it because the buses only took cash to get the tickets but luckily we had enough random pieces of change between the 6 of us that it was possible. we rode the bus and our stop was supposed to be in amalfi itself, but the road was closed. lol just our luck, actually i’m glad this was one of the few travel bumps that happened to us that day because i would have died if something major happened. It honestly wasn’t even bad, we ended up walking along the roadside and since it was closed no cars were coming and we could make it a party.

We get to the beach and the first thing I notice is the rocks! its not a sandy beach like Hawaii or California but rocky. That didn’t really matter though because this was the first time we made it to the beach in so long! In the question of beach vs mountain, I think I am a mountain girl but that doesn’t mean I dont love the beach. We took our pictures before we did anything too crazy because we definitely wanted to look good for instagram pictures lol. But after lunch, we laid on the beach and took naps, we did start this day at 4am so it was needed. The boys ran and jumped into the water at first I thought they were crazy but I realize I had to get in too because I was freaking at the Mediterranean Sea! I would have been so sad if i didn’t end up going in. So guess what?! I went swimming for a few short moments! The water was freezing but I seriously live for adventures. One of my favorite sayings is seize the day because to me it means go after life and chase your dreams, don’t settle and live the best you can. So yeah, swimming in the mediterranean, definitely a bucketlist kind of adventure!

the end of a crazy fun day! this was something I wanted to do for so long and it was worth it! don’t be afraid to be adventurous and go after the things you want. you only get this life so it might as well be full of laughs and crazy good memories! ciao for now
